18-Hour SAFE Core: General Pre-license Course

Course Description

This course meets the required 20 hours of NMLS-approved pre-license education needed to obtain a Mortgage Loan Originator license. It contains 3 hours of Federal Law, 3 hours of ethics, 2 hours of non-traditional mortgage lending, plus 12 hours of undefined electives.

  • Single-question quiz after each chapter
  • 25-question final exam at the end of the course
  • 2 case studies
  • Work at your own pace – course expires 3 months after the date of enrollment (free rescheduling is available)
  • Must be completed on a desktop or laptop. The NMLS prohibits courses on smartphones or tablet

  • Mortgage loan originator basics & history
  • Programs & mortgage product terminology
  • Origination & borrower application analysis
  • Laws that govern products, appraisals, etc.
  • Settlement agent/closing agent roles
  • Documents in the mortgage closing process & actual mortgage scenarios
  • Ethics, major fraud schemes, UDAAPS, fair lending, and prohibited practices
